Selina and I randomly cry tears of joy lately as we prepare to launch our independent feature film You, Me & Her theatrically on 200+ screens nationwide this Valentine’s Day.
Making any independent film is hard, making a good one is even harder; then finding a way to distribute it effectively to audiences in today’s climate is almost impossible.
However, as we continue to develop our plans and put them into action, in collaboration with John, Patrick and Jackie of the Fithian Group, our incredible team and the amazing supporters from both the independent film and our own community who have rallied behind our release, we are starting to see a vision for an exciting path forward for independent film, that brings us hope for the future; and yes, tears to our eyes almost on the daily. We are so grateful for the journey.
As we close out 2024, Selina and I find ourselves reflecting on a year that has been nothing short of transformative. The adventure of making and releasing You, Me & Her is testing every ounce of our resolve as filmmakers, entrepreneurs, dreamers and as a husband and wife team.
But it’s also reaffirmed why we started doing this in the first place: to tell heartfelt, humanistic stories together that resonate, challenge, and connect.
This year began with You, Me & Her winning over audiences and critics alike on the festival circuit—earning 15 awards, including Best Picture at the Mexican-American Film & Television Festival, and a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. We were overwhelmed by the love and validation, but the real challenge came next: navigating the rapidly shifting and often treacherous landscape of independent film distribution.
From our experience with our previous two features, we knew critical acclaim and awards wouldn’t guarantee a smooth path to audiences. The market has become more vertically integrated, limiting acquisitions, and theatrical distribution felt like an uphill battle.
The deck is stacked against indie filmmakers like us.
But if there’s one thing we’ve always believed, it’s that waiting for others to validate our work isn’t the way forward. Instead, we doubled down.
We took a bold leap forward. We raised additional marketing funds from our investor group to release the film theatrically and set our plans into motion.
That’s when we met The Fithian Group and learned about their innovative new platform Attend.
We are honored that the team selected "You, Me & Her" as the Alpha Test film for Attend, a pioneering platform founded by former NATO chief John Fithian, Patrick Corcoran and Jackie Brenneman. Attend is dedicated to revitalizing independent cinema by facilitating theatrical releases for indie films. By participating in this initiative, "You, Me & Her" is not only charting its own course but also contributing to the development of a platform that empowers filmmakers to bring their work to theaters nationwide.
With the backing of The Fithian Group, "You, Me & Her" is set to launch an innovative theatrical release, opening on over 200 screens nationwide on Valentine's Day. Our strategy includes organizing special event screenings, implementing a dynamic marketing campaign, and collaborating directly with exhibitors to craft an unforgettable experience for audiences. This endeavor embodies our vision of what theatrical cinema can achieve in the modern era, aligning with Attend's mission to support independent filmmakers in reaching wider audiences through traditional theatrical distribution.
But this isn’t just about one film. This year has sparked a revolution in how we think about storytelling, distribution, and the business of film.
